This series investigates the varied manifestations of the Baroque ideal, from intense theatricality and concern with the grotesque to a more reflective style. The diversity of these ideas is reflected in their geographical range, with the more flamboyant examples occurring predominantly in the south. The series traces the spread of the Baroque across western Europe, and to Latin America, Russia and colonial India.
