Romanesque Art in Medieval France and Spain

The pierres d'étoiles or `gems of stone' were the stages of the pilgrim route from Aubrac to Santiago de Compostela. This film about sacred sites of Romanesque art in France and Spain is divided into four parts: The Resurrection, The Paths of Eternity, The Sphere of the Stars, and The Courses of the Sea. It analyzes the Visigothic, Carolingian and Mozarabic influences on Romanesque style in the context of this sacred network of sites - Sainte-Foy de Conques, Perse, Bessuéjouls, Sainte-Marie de Souillac, Saint-Pierre de Moissac, Eunate, San Millan de la Cogolla, San Miguel de la Escalada, Foncebadon, Leboreiro, Santiago de Compostela, and Castro de Barona. And finally, it examines the spiritual and material considerations that influenced the fertile imagination of Romanesque sculptors and architects.
