The Age of Titian

In the sixteenth century the republic of Venice was the wealthiest trading power in the Mediterranean. Merchants brought precious goods from the East; she adorned herself with riches and offered lavish patronage to architects and artists. Perhaps the greatest of these was Titian. During the next century, Titian and his fellow artists in Venice became the idols of artistic Europe, and right up to our own time painters continue to turn for inspiration to the art of the golden age of Venice. Besides Titian's work, the film features that of Bellini, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Veronese, Antonello da Messina, Palma Vecchio, Lorenzo Lotto, and Jacopo Bassano.
